Other Whidbey database

Hi, a customer of ours already has a large number of users in a database, using whidbey.
I think they store a lot of information about a user in there, and they use a kind of modified sharepoint site to let users update their profile etc.

We are currently builidng a couple of DNN sites for them (on for each different 'department'), and they want to use the information from their already existing database to let people login to the DNN sites.

Since all the users and profiles, etc. are in the already existing database, that databse will be leading.
So what would be the best thing to do?

Re: Other Whidbey database

I'm not up on SharePoint but I believe that it to is built around the ASPNET Membership provider model as is DotNetNuke (with a couple of exceptions).

I would recommend researching this other application to see how/where membership information is being stored. If you find that this to be true, then you can simply configure (possibly) the existing membership provider for you DNN to look at a different server/db for authentication.

I found this article about SP 2007 they may provide a starting point: http://blogs.msdn.com/sharepoint/archive/2006/08/16/702010.aspx

hope this helps,

hk
