Use of EP as a Knowledge Base

We want to add a Knowledge Base to our site as part of the ‘intranet’.  The site has single sign-on enabled through Active Directory.  FACULTY and STAFF roles are able to view internal content.  As we look into creating a Knowledge Base and the possibility of using modules we already own a couple questions have come up.

Search – When live our site will be using Google Custom Search for site search.  Internal content shouldn’t show up in any of the search results.  Is there a way to implement another search/advanced search option (core DNN or DNN module) within our Knowledge Base pages that would ONLY provide results for items within a specific EP category and subcategories?  Are there any settings in EP to control what items are indexed? We would not want the search results to be cluttered with results representing public facing content from the rest of the site.  We would also want this search function to index an faq and forum modules within Knowledge Base pages. Any ideas?

Most Viewed – Is there an available configuration to set an Instance of EP to show the Most Viewed items? (rendered like the Category Feature Display)

Recent Articles – Is there an available configuration to set an Instance of EP to show a list of the most Recently posted or updated items? (rendered like the Category Feature Display)

We are trying to find a way to replicate the functionality that exists in some non-DNN applications like KBPublisher http://www.kbpublisher.com/kb/What-is-KBPublisher_118.html   A lot of the functionality can be replicated with EP.

Re: Use of EP as a Knowledge Base

Search, you could use the category search to search specific categories (sub categories) in Publish, but there is no way to control which items can/can't be indexed right now in Publish.

We don't currently have functionality to provide most viewed/most recent articles. We did have some of this functionality in the Category Display listing, but it's not implemented in the Custom List options that Publish primarily uses right now.
