Manage Categories suggestion
Modified By Dan Wallace on 1/9/2009 1:06:12 PM)

I've run into a confusing situation where I am having difficulty knowing which page to associate a category with.  I am working on building out all the categories and subcategories that our new site will need initially. Our content contributors will be authoring and posting many articles within each.  I am essentially getting the shell of the site ready for them so that they can get busy posting content that needs to be approved instead of having to create categories first, wait for approval, then post articles.

I previously created many 'physical' pages in DNN.  These are used to generate our main nav(DNN), drop down nav (snapsis) and main landing page subnav(snapsis). all nav deeper in the site will be lists of articles generated by EP.

Throughout the site we will have content organized topically and by audience.  I realize now that lots of DNN pages have been made there are several places where pages are named the same but happen to be located in different locations.  Example:  Records Office (Registrar)  There are two pages with this name.  One is for students and one is for staff.  Both are in different sections of the site.  Both will have unique content/articles.

This is an example of the list of pages I see in EP

Can this list be changed to resemble the DNN list of pages?  see below

thank you

Re: Manage Categories suggestion

Dan, we can definitely look at making that easier to use. Please feel free to add this as an enhancement request to http://support.engagemodules.com/ under the Publish project so we can keep track of it.

Re: Manage Categories suggestion

I'd like to also support this request. As it stands for my current project, with the hundreds of articles created, categories has been the only mechanism preventing the site from falling into chaos from a management perspective. The users have also created categories that resemble thier 'page hierachy'.

What would be an ideal function to assist with this is to have a checkbox in the Admin Settings that states whether or not to AUTOMATICALLY categorize according to the page heirachy. Clearing the checkbox would allow them to turn this off.

This would dramattically reduce the time spent by content people on organizing content, which appears to take between 25-30% of the time that it takes to create actual content, which is significant (40 hours of work can become 50-55 when you factor in adding in all of the categories).
